The ‘Mid’ Band was formed in September 1997, primarily to assist in the progress of players as they move from the Junior Band to the Senior Band. Over the years many of our young people have gone to study music at the various universities with some of the world famous names of Brass Banding-some have returned to re-join our ranks and are now joined by some older players who have reached the dizzy heights of the Championship and First sections and who now want to help bring on ‘intermediate’ players whilst still enjoying their own music . . . which is why we’re called the Mid band rather than the ‘B’ band.
The Mid Band is conducted by Nicholas Garman and is currently registered as a 2nd Section Band and competes in various contests across the UK. The mid band were crowned the Midland Area Champions for 2022 on the third section, gaining a place at the National Finals in September. The Mid band also have a wide ranging concert schedule, performing at venues across the county and further afield. The band are a friendly and sociable outfit, often organising social activities and trips as a band. In 2022 the Mid Band went on again to become regional champions of their division, winning the Midlands Region Third Section. In 2023 the Mid band became the LBBA Third Section Champions.
The band was awarded 2nd place in the Second Section at the 2025 LBBA Competition, performing Purcell Variations.
